CYENS Centre of Excellence
Seamless acoustic flooring solution designed for a revitalised historic building, combining performance, durability, and architectural continuity.
The Idea
Originally designed by Stavros Economou as a central market, this historic building in the centre of Nicosia has been revitalised to accommodate the CYENS Centre of Excellence.
The retained structure features a large ground-floor void rising to approximately 12 metres, creating a spatial condition where environmental acoustics became essential for user comfort. At the same time, the architectural intent required a continuous, monolithic floor surface that would preserve the clarity of the space while supporting intensive daily use.

UniSound 4mm + 6mm System
To meet these requirements, UniSound 4mm and 6mm systems were selected, providing a combination of acoustic performance and structural durability.
The system was applied across a total area of 1460m², covering working hubs, meeting areas, and circulation zones. Its seamless application ensured a uniform surface without joints, while effectively reducing sound within the large open volume.
The flexibility of the system allowed it to adapt to different functional areas while maintaining consistency throughout the space.
Special Requirements
The project required a flooring solution that could balance acoustic absorption with a refined finish suitable for a modern working environment within a historic structure.
UniSound provided a durable, easy-to-maintain surface that integrates seamlessly with the architectural concept, reinforcing the continuity of the interior while enhancing overall comfort.
The result is a unified flooring solution that supports both functionality and design, ensuring long-term performance in a high-usage environment.
